Acupuncture – what can it do for me?
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient therapy. It works on the basis that we have channels of energy running though our bodies. This energy can become stagnant or unbalanced as a result of stress, ill-health, or injury.
At certain points around the body the energy channel is closer to the surface. An acupuncturist uses hair like pins to access the energy channel at these specific points. By doing so they can influence the flow and balance of this energy and help to restore the body and promote healing.
What can acupuncture help with?
It has been clinically proven that acupuncture can positively effect:
- hormone imbalance e.g. menopause,
- back pain
- mild to moderate depression.
Additionally, in our clinic we have seen excellent results for clients who have IBS, infertility, ME, sleep issues and stress related ill health. Acupuncture is also an excellent means of achieving relaxation and can promote detoxification.
Generally speaking acupuncture can help with:
- emotional and physical ailments and diseases
- conditions that conventional medicine finds hard to treat
- chronic pain that affects mood and energy
- fertility issues for men and women

We also run 3 clinics each week for men who have prostate cancer which is being or has been treated with hormone therapy. The side effects of this therapy can be managed with ear acupuncture but availability is limited on the NHS. Our clinics aim to make ear acupuncture available and affordable to men who have prostate cancer and low incomes. A referral from a medical or healthcare professional is needed to access these clinics. Please call us on 0113 234 0818 for more information.
If you have health insurance, you may be able to claim for some or all of the cost of your acupuncture. Check your policy.
Phoenix Health & Wellbeing is a Charity. By coming to us for a treatment you are helping others less fortunate than yourself. We use the proceeds of your treatment to subsidise those who would not otherwise be able to access our therapies. Roughly £4 to every £10 spent with us will go to help others.
Opening times:
